WebMar 2, 2024 · The Treatment Action Campaign or TAC is an organization established by HIV/AIDS activists of South Africa. The organization was co-founded by Zackie Achmat, the HIV-positive in 1998. The campaign is rooted in the direct action tactics, experiences and anti-‘apartheid background’ of the founder. Webment plan. TAC members volunteered for arrest as part of this campaign, and Achmat was among many activists charged and arrested during the Caledon Square police station occupation in March 2003. Before co-founding the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in 1998, Achmat was a director of the AIDS Law Project based out of the University of the Witwatersrand, which is now headed by Achmat's longtime collaborator Mark Heywood. The AIDS Law Project and TAC work closely together in all the legal matters that arise in the course of advocating for the right to health, including prosecuting cases and defending TAC volunteers.
